‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Trailer Drops: Rhaenyra Sends More Dragons to Battle, June Release Date Confirmed

LOS ANGELES, CA â€“ The dragons are back—and this time, they’re bringing war.

HBO has released the highly anticipated first trailer for ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3, confirming a June 2026 premiere date for the penultimate season of the hit Game of Thrones prequel. The trailer, which dropped Thursday ahead of the finale of another Thrones-verse entry, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, promises the all-out civil war fans have been waiting for.

Total War Comes to Westeros

The 90-second teaser picks up in the aftermath of Season 2’s explosive finale. Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) sits menacingly on the Iron Throne after his brother Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) was left disfigured and his mother, Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), secretly fled King’s Landing to surrender the city to her former best friend-turned-rival, Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).

But Rhaenyra isn’t just accepting surrender—she’s preparing for conquest. The trailer reveals she has discovered new dragons to add to her army, a game-changing development that spells disaster for the Greens. “You are the queen of dragons,” Daemon (Matt Smith) tells her in the teaser. “You have absolute power within your grasp. This is the moment you become queen.”

The Battle of the Gullet Teased

Fans of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood will recognize what’s coming: the legendary Battle of the Gullet. The trailer offers quick cuts of massive naval warfare, dragons clashing in the skies, and what appears to be Rhaenyra’s son Jace (Harry Collett) flying his dragon against House Velaryon’s fleet—a key moment from the books that readers have been dying to see.

Showrunner Ryan Condal previously teased Season 3 as “total war” during an Inside the Episode feature after the Season 2 finale. “While this season was very much about the fits and starts of an early medieval war, Season 3 is clearly going to be about total war,” he said. The trailer confirms that promise.

The Cast Grows

Returning cast members include:

  • Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen
  • Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen
  • Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower
  • Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, and more

New additions for Season 3 are equally impressive:

  • James Norton as Ormund Hightower
  • Tommy Flanagan as Lord Roderick Dustin
  • Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly
  • Tom Cullen as Ser Luthor Largent
  • Joplin Sibtain as Ser “Bold” Jon Roxton
  • Barry Sloane as Ser Adrian Redfort

When to Watch

House of the Dragon Season 3 will premiere in June 2026 on HBO and Max, featuring eight episodes. The series has been confirmed for a four-season run, making this the penultimate chapter in the Targaryen saga.

The Vision Continues

The trailer also nods to the broader Game of Thrones mythology, with glimpses of what appears to be Daemon’s vision of the White Walkers and the long night to come—a reminder that while the Dance of the Dragons is devastating, even greater threats loom in Westeros’ future.
