LOS ANGELES, CA – Is it Jim Carrey? A clone? The best impersonation ever?
The internet has been spiraling since the 64-year-old comedy legend made a rare public appearance at the 2026 César Awards in Paris on February 27 to accept an honorary award. Photos of Carrey’s noticeably different appearance sent social media into overdrive, with fans and conspiracy theorists alike questioning whether the Ace Ventura star had been replaced by a body double or something stranger.
Now a cosmetologist has broken down exactly what happened, and Carrey’s representative has finally addressed the chaos.
What Happened to Jim Carrey at the César Awards?
Carrey took the stage at L’Olympia in Paris to accept his Honorary César Award, delivering a speech in French that he had reportedly been practicing for months. But within hours, photos of his face sparked a firestorm.
“I’m no conspiracy theorist but that’s not Jim Carrey, ” one user posted.
“That’s not him. Jim Carrey’s always had prominent brown eyes. This is the worst impersonation ever, ” another claimed.
The rumors intensified when drag queen and celebrity impersonator Alexis Stone (famous for his uncanny transformations) posted a cryptic image of a latex mask and fake teeth on Instagram, leading many to believe he had pulled off the ultimate impersonation.
The Cosmetologist’s Analysis
Dr. Raffi Hovsepian, a triple board certified plastic surgeon, analyzed Carrey’s appearance by comparing current images with photos from 2024. His findings:
Forehead and brow area: “Consistent with normal male aging rather than surgical alteration.”
Eye area: “Mild hollowing and some skin laxity consistent with age” with no evidence of a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
Midface and cheek area: “The most noticeable shift.” Dr. Hovsepian noted “slightly increased fullness” likely due to mild hyaluronic acid fillers or temporary post treatment swelling.
Lower face: “Some softening along the jawline relative to his earlier appearances,” which he called “extremely common with aging.”

The surgeon emphasized: “I don’t see evidence of something ‘gone wrong.’ I see a man in his 60s with natural structural aging and possibly modest aesthetic maintenance that may read differently under certain lighting conditions.”
The “Mickey Rourke” Comparison
Many compared Carrey’s new look to Mickey Rourke, whose appearance changed dramatically after numerous plastic surgery procedures. But Dr. Hovsepian stressed that Carrey’s changes are far less extreme and likely just subtle filler work combined with natural aging.
The Rep Finally Speaks
As the “clone” theories reached fever pitch, Carrey’s longtime publicist shut them down with a simple statement to the Daily Mail:
“Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”
César Awards general delegate Gregory Caulier also weighed in, calling the controversy a “non-issue.”
“From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” Caulier told Variety. “Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”
Alexis Stone’s Cryptic Post
Adding one final layer of confusion, Alexis Stone’s latex mask post remains unexplained. Was he simply capitalizing on the viral moment or did he actually have something to do with it? Stone has not clarified.
The Bigger Picture
Carrey, who famously stepped back from Hollywood in recent years before returning as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise (2020, 2022, 2024), has joked about coming back for the money. But this controversy proves that whatever he does (or looks like) the internet will be watching.
