LOS ANGELES, CA – Get ready to travel back 66 million years.
Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer for ** The Dinosaurs **, a sweeping four-part documentary series that promises to chronicle the rise and fall of the prehistoric creatures that once ruled the Earth. And with a pedigree that includes Steven Spielberg, Morgan Freeman, and the visual effects wizards at ILM, this is one extinction event you won’t want to miss.
The series, which premieres March 6, 2026, comes from executive producer Steven Spielberg and his Amblin Entertainment banner, reuniting the award-winning team behind Netflix’s previous hit, Life on Our Planet. The goal? To create the most immersive, scientifically-grounded, and visually stunning dinosaur documentary to date.
A Jurassic Journey
Narrated by the unmistakable voice of Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman, The Dinosaurs spans hundreds of millions of years, following the creatures from their earliest origins to their catastrophic demise. The trailer promises sweeping vistas, terrifying predators, and the kind of photorealistic CGI that only Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) —the legendary effects house founded by Spielberg’s close friend George Lucas—can deliver.
“Witness the rise—and the fall—of nature’s greatest empire,” Freeman intones in the trailer, as audiences are treated to shots of towering sauropods, feathered raptors, and the inevitable asteroid impact that changed everything.
The Dream Team
Behind the cameras (so to speak) is a who’s who of natural history filmmaking. The series is showrun by Dan Tapster, Keith Scholey, and Alastair Fothergill, veterans of acclaimed projects like Our Planet, A Perfect Planet, and Life on Our Planet. Nick Shoolingin-Jordan, known for One Strange Rock and How to Grow a Planet, serves as series director.
The music, composed by Lorne Balfe ( His Dark Materials, Mission: Impossible – Fallout ), adds a cinematic sweep that rivals any summer blockbuster.
The Streaming Dino Wars
The Dinosaurs arrives amid a golden age of prehistoric content. Apple TV+’s Prehistoric Planet, executive produced by Jon Favreau and narrated by David Attenborough, has set a high bar for natural history programming. But with Spielberg—the man behind Jurassic Park itself—at the helm, Netflix is clearly aiming for the throne.
“Spielberg invented the modern movie dinosaur,” said entertainment journalist Carlos Mendez. “Bringing him back to this world, with ILM handling the visuals and Freeman narrating? That’s a heavyweight combo. This isn’t just a documentary; it’s an event.”
When to Watch
All four episodes of The Dinosaurs will premiere March 6, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
